Area 51 is an American military base, and a remote detatchment of Edwards Air Force Base. It is located in Southern Nevada in the Western U.S, 83 miles North-Northwest of downtown Las Vegas. Its main purpose is the test aircrafts and weaponry.
Area 51 has other names, including: Dreamland, Paradise Ranch, Home base, Watertown Strip, Groom Lake and Homey Airport. It is known as the military pilots near by as the Box or the Container.
Its secrecy has led Area 51 to becoming a focus of modern UFO and Conspiracy theories. Some theories include:
- Storage of alien aircraft
- Creating an aircraft based on an aliens
- Meetings with extraterrestrials
- Developing exotic energy weapons
- Developing a weather control device
- Activities related to Majestic 12
There is also a rumour about a disappearing airstrip (nicknamed the Cheshire airstrip after the Cheshire Cat) that briefly appears when you spray water on to its camouflaged asphalt.
