Voivod live in 2010
Voivod are a progressive metal/progressive thrash metal band from Canada. They have a unique style formed of strange song structures and sudden time changes, minor and dissonant chords and progressive influences. Each of the original members had a psyeudonym - their vocalist Denis Bélanger as "Snake", guitarist Denis D'Armour as "Piggy" (who passed away in 2005), bassist Jean-Yves Thériau

lt as "Blacky", and drummer Michal Langevin as "Away". They started as a generic thrash band, but developed a more progressive style on 1987's Killing Technology. Their style fully crystallized on the classic albums Dimension Hatross and Nothingface, which had sci-fi lyrics that have become typical of the band. They have released a new album this year called Target Earth- it is the first album since Angel Rat to have Blacky in the band, and the first Voivod album to have none of Piggy's guitar work on it- his role is now filled by Daniel Morgrain ("Chewy").The album has been called the "best Voivod album since The Outer Limits" by several users of metal websites.
